The North Texas Renewable Energy Group Meeting topic is "Geothermal Energy Development in Texas," presented by Maria Richards, Southern Methodist University Geothermal Lab Coordinator.This is a presentation about generating electricity through the use of geothermal energy in Texas, not a discussion of ground-source heat-pumps or air conditioning.
The Dallas City Plan Commission is taking another look at gas drilling in Dallas parks after voting it down in December. Residents are urged to attend the public hearing to voice concerns.

The Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club is hosting this screening of the documentary "Beyond Pollution," an examination of the environmental, economic and humanitarian impacts of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The city of Dallas will present the input from the early outreach meetings regarding its zero waste goals for 2040 and facilitate a discussion among the participants in order to provide recommendations to the City Council on the timelines included in the plan. The City Council will consider adopting the revised timelines at a City Council meeting in Spring 2013. Texas Campaign for the Environment is urging the public to attend in support of pushing forward a commercial recycling program, a single-use bag ordinance and municipal compost recycling.
The city of Dallas is hosting two public hearings, Jan. 7 and Jan. 8, to get feedback on the timeline to phase-in changes to achieve zero-waste goals for Dallas by 2040. Texas Campaign for the Environment is urging Dallas residents to appear to support speeding up plans to offer recycling for apartment dwellers and businesses, phase out single-use bags and start a compost recycling program.
