Dallas Public Library: Seed Swap - Dallas

Meet your fellow gardeners and urban agriculture enthusiasts. Come when you want and stay as long as you'd like. Representatives from the recently opened MLK Seedling Farm will be on hand to chat and answer questions about what they do, as well as offer tours of the seedling farm.

The Seed Library will provide a variety of free seeds for everyone - plus a free take-home seed craft for kids. If you would like to bring your own seeds to swap with others, we will provide envelopes and blank labels to facilitate trading.

Native Prairies Association of Texas, Blackland Chapter: What We Learned from America's Grassland Conference - Dallas

NPAT executive director Pat Merkord will speak on what she gleaned from talks and field trips she experienced at America’s Grassland Conference held last December in Fort Worth. She will also catch us up on Mathews Prairie, issues in the Texas legislatures, and other NPAT news.

Dallas Coalition for Hunger Solutions: Community Garden Workshop - Dallas

Are you working on starting a community garden? Always wondered what it takes to get started Involved with a garden that would benefit from a little extra help? This workshop is for you!

Who should attend:

•Anyone in leadership in a community garden setting

•Anyone thinking about or working with others to start a community garden

$25/person. $15/for additional person from same garden. Limited scholarships available.

Three sessions: 

1. Feb. 8, 6-9 p.m.

2. Feb. 9, 6-9 p.m.

3. Feb. 10, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Oliver Nature Park: Invasive Species - Mansfield

Plants and animals that are not native to an area can spell trouble for the ecosystem. What are some of the invasive species that are unwelcome in the DFW area? How much damage can be done by small animals like mussels and beetles? Join a naturalist at Oliver Nature Park to get answers to these questions, and learn what you can do to help keep Mansfield safe from the species invasion! Preregistration required.

Wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. This class is geared towards adults and older children. We will meet in the amphitheater at Oliver Nature Park.
