Botanical Research Institute of Texas: Underground World of Mushrooms - Fort Worth

This half-day workshop taught by BRIT resident research associate Dr. Denis Benjamin will introduce participants to the wide variety of mushrooms that exist in our own backyard, the Cross Timbers ecosystem of North Central Texas. Join Denis and become acquainted with the Kingdom of Fungi and learn proper methods for collecting and photographing samples.

John Bunker Sands Wetland Center: Wild Edible Walk - Seagoville

Join Wetland steward Bob Richie as he shares his passion for urban foraging. We’ll start with a quick botany lesson on how to positively identify the plants for which we are looking. We will then search out and try some of the fresh and tasty offerings that grow naturally in the area and discuss some useful and medicinal plants that can be found as well. We will also sample some preserved foraged foods that Bob has collected throughout the year.  Preregistration and payment required. Space is limited. $10. McKinney Tour de Coop - McKinney

Organized by volunteers and chicken coop owners, the self-guided tour allows a close-up look at several back yard chicken coops. The tour promotes self-sustainability by presenting the benefits and joys of owning your own flock and creating a backyard chicken set-up. Proceeds benefit the Historic McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square.
