City of Fort Worth: Cowtown Cleanup - Fort Worth

This year marks the 30th annual Cowtown Cleanup! Started in 1985 as the Glad® Bag-a-Thon the Cowtown Cleanup is Fort Worth’s longest running cleanup now involving more than 5,000 volunteers. Picking up litter sadly does not prevent it from happening in the first place, but KFWB feels that youth that participate in litter cleanups do not grow up to be litterers. Grab some young people, find a Fort Worth location in need of some TLC, register to cleanup and receive free trash bags, gloves and T-shirts while supplies last. It takes all of us to keep Fort Worth beautiful!  Link to: www.FortWorthTexas.gov/cowtowncleanup

Fort Worth Nature Center: Animal Picnic -Fort Worth

1 - 2 p.m and 3 - 4 p.m.

Animals, like people, prefer certain foods over others. For instance a prairie dog doesn’t eat mice, just like a skunk is not likely to eat acorns. Why is that? Join us as we take a short hike and ‘find our animals’ along the trail and then set up a picnic lunch for them with their favorite food. This program is designed for children ages 3 - 5 and their adult companions. Free with paid admission.

Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area: Great Backyard Bird Count - Arlington

We’ll have a guided bird walk led by an experienced birder who will help us identify and count the birds we see. Bring your binoculars, cameras, and hiking shoes and help us count the birds that visit O.S. Gray.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.

O.S. Gray Natural Area has no restroom facilities, but Kroger is nearby.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology & National Audubon Society: Great Backyard Bird Count - Global

Anyone in the world can count birds at any location for at least 15 minutes on one or more days of the count and enter their sightings at www.BirdCount.org. The information gathered by tens of thousands of volunteers helps track changes in bird populations on a massive scale. The GBBC is a joint project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society with partner Bird Studies Canada.
