Kids in the Garden Classes

Begins Wednesday, March 23rd— Every WEDNESDAY 3:30pm-5:00pm; March 23rd
through May 11th
2nd through 4th graders will experience the world through an exciting
hands-in-the garden program. This imaginative curriculum shows children that
growing and eating nutritious fruits and vegetables reaps its own rewards.
Participants will complete activities towards a Junior Master Gardener
certification.

Don’t let your rain go down the drain! Saving water in your yard is something that you can do with ease. Dr. Dotty Woodson, Extension Program Specialist – Water Resources will share basic water harvesting strategies, how to calculate the amount of water that you can capture and then help you construct your own rain barrel. Just in time for our spring showers, this class is a must for anyone who is trying to conserve water on their property.

Few things are as interesting, lively and beautiful as birds. They brighten up the landscape and fill our gardens with their beautiful music. In this two part class, Ben Jones, State Director of Education for Audubon Texas, will introduce you to the birds that call the Arboretum and TRAC home. Ben will show you how to identify and keep track of the birds you see, how to use your binoculars and how to recognize different birds by their call. Following the lecture on the first week of class, you will take a leisurely stroll through the Arboretum in search of the many birds that reside in the White Rock Lake area. During the second week of class, Ben will take you on a birding walk to explore the wonderful trails at TRAC. Be sure to bring your binoculars and dress for the weather.

It is the first full-length, high definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold. The film explores Aldo Leopold’s life in the early part of the twentieth century and he many ways his land ethic idea continues to be applied all over t he world today.

The Greater Fort Worth Real Estate Council (GFWREC), a unified voice for the commercial real estate industry in the Fort Worth area, announced details today about the 2nd Winter Sustainability Summit to be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The "Show Me the Money" breakfast roundtable summit will continue the GFWREC Sustainability Series that kicked off last spring, and it will be held at the TCU Cox Banquet Hall in the Dee J. Kelly Alumni and Visitors Center.

Make a Rain Barrell - Dallas

Thu, Feb 10 - Make a Rain Barrell from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Dr. Dotty Woodson, Extension Program Specialist - Water Resources will be teaching this class and will provide participants the opportunity to construct a 55 gallon rain barrel as well as discuss installing an efficient irrigation system. The rain barrel is yours to take home! Cost is $40.00 for each barrel and they measure 24 inches in diameter and 36 inches tall. Bring a vehicle large enough to haul your rain barrel(s) home.
