Canoe Fest - Ft Worth

Enjoy a bit of canoeing/kayaking on your own on the quiet waters around Greer Island. Canoes/kayaks, paddles and life jackets provided. Children must be 5 years or older and accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents must sign a liability waiver for minor children. Kayakers must be at least 18 years old. NO REGISTRATION NEEDED. FIRST COME-FIRST SERVED. Greer Island Gate will open at 11 am. Meet at Greer Island. $5 (with paid admission)/MEMBERS $3.

Naturalist-led Nature Hike - Ft Worth

Join a naturalist for a leisurely hike on the trails of the FWNC&R. Hikes feature current natural history events such as blooming wildflowers, commonly seen insects, birds, other animals and current projects on the Refuge. Bring water and dress for the weather. FREE
(with paid admission).

Kayak Tour - Ft Worth

Tour a stretch of the West Fork of the Trinity River to view ducks, herons, beaver and other critters. Sunscreen, water and weather appropriate clothing (including shoes that can get wet) are recommended. Kayaks, paddles and lifejackets are provided. Children must be 5 years or older. Parents must sign a liability waiver for minor children. Some previous experience recommended. Registration ends Thursday preceding or when filled. Maximum - 8 participants. Meet at Big River Parking Lot. Pre-registration required. $20 (includes admission fee)/MEMBERS $15.

"A Simpler Time" Children's Nature Event - Ft Worth

Join local author Laura Eckroat as she takes children back to a simpler time. She will read her book A Simpler Time and talk with children about the beauty of nature and how to use nature in writing stories and drawing pictures. She will take children on a short hike around the Nature Center and they will collect leaves, sticks and other items on the hike to begin a Science Nature Journal. Program is geared for children 5 - 10 years old. Pre-registration required FREE (with paid admission).

"The Trinity River, A Legacy of Life" - Ft Worth

Come and learn some cultural and natural history of our local Trinity River. We will explore the facts, myths, legends and colorful history of the often overlooked waterway that is the reason for the existence of the DFW Metroplex. FREE (with paid admission).

Full Moon Paddle - Ft Worth

Come and join us for a different type of Canoe Tour in the evening hours. This program will present new opportunities like hearing beavers slap the water with their tails and seeing other wildlife, like deer and raccoons. Canoes, paddles and lifejackets are provided.

Children must be 5 years or older. Parents must sign a liability waiver for minor children. Some previous experience recommended.

Registration ends Tuesday preceding or when filled. Maximum - 12 participants. Meet at Back Gate. Pre-registration required. $20 (includes admission)/MEMBERS $15.

Early Birds - Ft Worth

Come and join a naturalist as we try to wake up with the birds. We will take a leisurely hike around the Nature Center to see if we can
find some birds beginning their day. This is the best time of the day to see our fine feathered friends. Pre-registration required. $10 (includes admission fee)/MEMBERS $5.

Summer Wildflowers - Ft Worth

View the colorful sights that summer wildflowers bring to the Nature Center. Black-eyed-Susan, Blazing Star, and Lemon Beebalm are just examples of the native wildflowers that have adapted to the Texas heat and are a great source of food for some migrating wildlife. $5 (with paid admission)/Members FREE.

Birding in the Park - Ft Worth

Birding in the Park at Foster Park in Fort Worth - First Saturday of each month September - April

Where: Foster Park on Trail Lake Drive 1 mile north of I-20 in Fort Worth

When: The first Saturday of every month (September - April) 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Description: This is a great field trip for beginner birders. Binoculars will be available if needed. Easy walking. Please come prepared for current weather conditions.

Birding Field Trip to John Bunker Sands Wetlands

Please join Ft Worth Audubon Society for a special Summer field trip to John Bunker Sands Wetlands for shorebird migration!

When: Saturday, August 13, 2011 - John Bunker Sands Wetlands in Kaufman County- RSVP Required

Meeting time and location: The trip will begin at 6:00 AM in the parking lot of the rock church on Combine Road in Kaufman County

Directions to the church parking lot from Highway 175 in Kaufman County:

(FYI - Highway 175 can be accessed from I-20 or I-635)

The Combine Road exit is off of Highway 175 - 7.8 miles south east of LBJ (I-635) Freeway

Combine Road is the first exit after you see the Kaufman County line sign.
