Dallas climate plan passes unanimously by virtual vote

Dallas City Council unanimously passed its first climate action plan, the Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP), aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to meet Paris Agreement targets. While many supported it, others called for swift, bold action and emphasized the need for public involvement and partnerships.

Dallas City Council to vote on climate plan

The Dallas City Council will vote on the Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) on May 27. With support from community groups, the plan outlines 97 actions to address climate change. Critics, including the Dallas People's Climate Coalition, demand stronger measures focusing on equity, justice, and renewable energy.

Dallas’ climate action plan is well underway, aiming for passage in time for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020. 

That’s according to James McGuire, director of the city’s Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability, during a recent interview with Green Source DFW at Dallas City Hall.

A group of environmental activists aim to move a mountain in south Dallas.

That is, Shingle Mountain - the five-story pile of discarded shingles looming over a residential neighborhood in Southern Dallas. 

The recycling operation turned toxic waste site was put on hold temporarily last Thursday.
