TCEQ hearing on VW settlement to be held in Arlington

The Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance invites environmentalists to attend the TCEQ hearing on the Texas Volkswagen Settlement Plan in Arlington, addressing over $200 million from the VW emissions scandal. A pre-hearing conference call will be held on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. to prepare attendees.

Hyperloop eyed for DFW by regional planners

The Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Transportation Council is considering hyperloop technology for statewide projects. After visiting Virgin Hyperloop One, they plan to study high-speed corridors, potentially transforming regional travel. The initiative includes an environmental impact study for routes and aims to connect key Texas cities, enhancing economic opportunities.

DART rolls out electric buses 

DART has added seven electric buses to its fleet, servicing the free downtown Dallas D-Link route. Funded by a $7.6 million federal grant, these zero-emission buses replace diesel buses and support DART’s clean fuel initiative. Electric buses are part of a nationwide trend to improve air quality.

The Toyota folks revealed the new 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid last summer. I had the chance to drive this midsize sedan in Portland, Oregon a week before the big reveal and it did not disappoint.

While the word “vanilla” has been used to describe the Camry, the promise for the 2018 version is hardly boring.

Even better, the 2018 hybrid Toyota Camry is a head-turner in looks and owner appeal.

Denton man peddles cargo bikes for eco-friendly travel

Aaron Powell, inspired by cargo bikes during a European vacation, founded Urban Tribe Cargo Bicycles in Denton to promote eco-friendly travel. He developed a model called the Gatherer, ideal for families, and plans to expand the product line. Motivated by his daughter, Powell aims to make cargo bikes a common family transport option in the U.S.

Volvo says its move toward all EVs was customer driven

Last month, Volvo launched a new chapter in automotive history by announcing it will only make electric or hybrid vehicles starting in 2019.

Last month, Volvo revealed an ambitious plan that environmentalists are applauding. The Swedish multinational company announced that every vehicle the premium car maker launches from the year 2019 onward will have an electric motor.

“This announcement marks the end of the solely combustion engine-powered car,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars.
