Litter cleanups give Weatherford some 'love'

In 2022, Jeff Oakes started cleaning litter in Weatherford, inspiring neighbors to join. This led to the nonprofit Love Weatherford, which has since gathered 4,000 bags of litter. The group plants wildflowers, reduces littering, and engages community members, with hopes of expanding the initiative further.

Support Food Source DFW on North Texas Giving Day

On North Texas Giving Day, Sept. 17, support the Memnosyne Institute, a first-time participant, to aid Food Source DFW, a food recycling program. Founded in 2013 by Todd Collier, it redistributed 15 million pounds of food, connecting donors to those in need, and has been vital during the pandemic.

Green donations go farther on North Texas Giving Day

On Sept. 19, North Texas Giving Day amplifies donations to over 3,000 nonprofits, including environmental and animal welfare groups. Donors can preschedule gifts from Sept. 9, with all contributions eligible for bonus funds. Communities Foundation of Texas governs the event, featuring Dirk and Jessica Nowitzki as honorary chairs.

Texas Sierra Club recognizes green leaders in North Texas

North Texas environmentalists were among 19 honored by Sierra Club Saturday at Texas’ Lone Star Chapter’s awards. Sierra members from around the state gathered in Addison to acknowledge efforts statewide from both 2013 and 2014.
