Native Prairies Association of Texas Fort Worth Chapter: Prairie Seekers Workshop - Aledo

Prairie Seekers is a prairie assessment and mapping program developed by Native Prairies Association of Texas. The Fort Worth chapter is hosting a training workshop which covers topics and field training on: prairie plant ID, soils, succession (reading the land), fauna, mapping and iNaturalist. After certification, Prairie Seekersvolunteers conduct surveys whose data will be contributed to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department state prairie database. This information is used to identify future prairie conservation opportunities across the state. Workshop hours are approved for Master Naturalist Advanced Training. The workshop is free with RSVP. Lunch is provided by Dixon Water Foundation.

This program is being developed and field-tested by the Fort Worth chapter of NPAT with the eventual goal of exporting the program across the state.

The workshop is hosted by NPAT, Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge and Dixon Water Foundation. Presenters and field trainers include Suzanne Tuttle, Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge Manager; Jeff Quayle, FW-NPAT Field Trip Coordinator; Pat Merkord, NPAT Executive Director. Tentative: RJ Taylor, Volunteer Conservation Director, Connemara Conservancy and Jason Singhurst, TPWD Botanist.
