Wildlife advocate David Mizejewski will be at Earth Day Texas promoting the mission of the National Wildlife Federation in the Automobile Building, Main Stage A.

[ibimage==6768==original_size==none==self==ibimage_left]A lifelong naturalist, animal-lover and self-professed nature geek, David Mizejewski is a TV and radio personality, author and blogger who uses his knowledge and enthusiasm to get people excited about joining National Wildlife Federation in its mission to protect wildlife and connect with nature. Come see Mizejewski and his wildly entertaining animals!

Derek Broman, wildlife biologist for the DFW Metroplex from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, will detail the components of a creating a wildscape for wildlife habitat using native vegetation. 

Chad Pregracke, CNN Hero of the Year, founder of Living Lands and Waters, will be at Earth Day Texas in the Automobile Building, Stage A.

About 70,000 volunteers have pitched in, helping Chad Pregracke collect more than 7 million pounds of trash in the past 15 years. Listen to Pregracke’s incredible story.

The film Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time highlights Leopold’s extraordinary career, tracing how he shaped and influenced the modern environmental movement.

Tickets include 1 drink for the bar, appetizers, admission and talk following. Proceeds benefit the Connemara Conservancy. $25.

5-7K group walk to see the bluebonnets at Cedar Ridge Preserve. 

Speakers throughout the day talking about bees, native plants, prairies, bird habitats, sustainable gardens. In addition walks highlighting wildflowers, birds, insects and edible plants. See schedule on website. Free. Info: Jim Folger at publicity@ntmn.org or 214-663-2268.

Bring your own telescope or use one of ours to explore the heavens and learn about nearby constellations. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available. (Port-A-Potty available in the park, but no water or electricity)

Directions:

From I-20, exit 361 to Highway 16, north to Strawn 4 miles.

From U.S. Highway 180, travel south on Hwy 16 to Strawn.

In Strawn, take FM 2372 (Tucker Lake Road) west for 2 miles then look for the signs.

This month we'll be walking through nature with noted Master Naturalist Jim Varnum and tuning up our wildflower beds, pulling privet and moving mulch for our new Meadow Trail. The Nature Walk begins at 9 am, Community Day will follow.
