Learn about the Texas Master Naturalist program. The North Texas Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist Program is accepting applications for its 2019 class. Master Naturalist Trainees receive in-depth education in wildlife and natural resource management, customized to focus on our local ecosystems. In return, Master Naturalists provide volunteer service in the form of community education, conservation, citizen science, and demonstration projects, while pursuing advanced training in areas of their special interests.

Rachel Richter will talk about the Bats of North Texas. Did you know that there are over 1,300 species of bats? These flying mammals provide important benefits to natural ecosystems and human economies. This presentation will discuss bat biology, which bat species call DFW home, why bats are so important, and the current threats to bat populations.

Learn about creatures of the night (moths/owls) at this family-friendly event. We will attract and identify moths, investigate owl pellets and offer nature crafts and games. Our nature store will be open for shopping. Free for members, $5 for non-members, ages 2+.

DFW Urban Wildlife will present on how wildlife survives in the city, what kind of wildlife can you find in DFW, basic wildlife photography, and places on the internet where people can learn more about wildlife and share their observations. Potluck at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish and a cup.

Family friendly holiday event featuring holiday lights and decor on the half-mile nature trail. Live music, photos with Father Christmas and Mother Nature in a festive setting. Hot beverages and treats will be available for purchase.

Tickets at the door are $5-$9. (Children 2 and under are free.) Save $2 per ticket by purchasing tickets online from Nov. 3 through Dec. 13. The public is also welcome to purchase event tickets as gifts.

Our prairie is showing off its early autumn beauty and the butterflies are everywhere!

Come join butterfly expert Dale Clark from the Dallas County Lepidopterists’ Society in an educational walk around Twelve Hills.

We’ll proceed from the butterfly garden at the front of the nature center through the flowering prairie. Dale will net butterflies for us to get a closer look and teach us about the many beautiful species we have at Twelve Hills.

This walk is family friendly. No pets, please.

The Guardians is 56-minute documentary that provides insight into the fight to protect monarch butterflies and their Mexico homeland.

Screenings at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Albatross filmmaker and artist Chris Jordan created a powerfully moving love story about birds on Midway Island in the Pacific whose bodies are filled with ocean plastic. Come experience a meditative look at both the destructive power of our culture of mass consumption and the beauty of the natural world.

Speaker: Chester McConnell, President of the Friends of the Wild Whoopers

The Friends of the Wild Whoopers is a private, non-profit group with a mission to assist in the protection and management of the Aransas-Wood Buffalo population of wild whooping cranes. They prepare management plans for these areas to protect, improve and develop “stopover habitats” for migration.

Celebrate the wonderful monarch butterfly; their life cycle, habitat, food supply, and the amazing journey undertaken every year in search of warm weather. It's a free, family-friendly event with lots of activities for everyone.
