Astronomy on the Meadow Night Walk - Allen

Join Master Naturalist Clyde Camp for a night walk and Astronomy on the Meadow. The walk is generally held on the Saturday or Sunday closest to the New Moon but check the website calendar for specific dates and status of that month's walk.
Meet at the Suncreek Park circular parking lot (just west from the normal Connemara entrance on Alma - see map ) at 9 p.m. sharp and then walk to the Meadow the back way.
Sign up on the Connemara website and see the Event Notice for more information on what to bring and what to wear. The walk is about 1.5 miles. This event is not appropriate for young children.

Plant Walk - Arlington

Event hosted by the Arlington Conservation Council. Renowned Texas Master Naturalist Jim Varnum will lead a one-hour plant walk. His walks are always very interesting, educational and informative.

Following the plant walk, City Councilwoman Lana Wolff will draw the winning ticket in ACC's Rangers Ballpark Suite fund raiser. Tickets are available for $20 each.

After the drawing, volunteers will be watering, weeding and cleaning up in the park.

Volunteer at Oak Cliff Nature Preserve - Dallas

Volunteer with the Texas Land Conservancy as it battles the invasive plant species at the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve. The organization is preparing for a renovation project that will ensure everyone has access to the beauty of this preserve.

Water provided. Wear closed toed shoes, and bring work gloves if you have them. Only 20 spots available!

Backyard Reptiles - Fort Worth

While gardening, cleaning or enjoying a summer’s day, reptiles can often be observed around our houses. Join us as we discuss what common reptiles might be visiting your backyard, what their diet consists of and unique behaviors they may exhibit. FREE (with paid admission). Planet Shark: Shark Attack Survivor, Conservationist to Speak

Rodney Fox, survivor of one of the worst, non-fatal shark attacks, will make an exclusive visit to the Museum of Nature & Science in Fair Park next week. From surviving one of the worst, non-fatal shark attacks by a Great White to becoming one of the foremost advocates in the research and conservation of the very creature that could have taken his life—Rodney is an inspiration to us all!

On Saturday, July 28, ticket holders to the Planet Shark: Predator or Prey exhibition at the Museum of Nature & Science, will hear about Rodney’s unparalleled diving career of funny, unusual and thrilling experiences, including his famous shark attack story and being a part of the filming for the popular 1975 film, “Jaws.” Visitors can see a signed copy of Peter Benchley’s book, “Jaws,” in the Planet Shark exhibition at the Museum.

Mystery in the Museum Sleepover - Dallas

In the midst of our move to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, a priceless Museum artifact has gone missing! Can it be found before the light of day reveals the empty space to our visitors? Gather clues as you sleuth through optical illusions, fingerprinting, and use the science of chromatography. You'll even take a peek at items from the MNS collections closet, rarely seen by our everyday guests.
Mystery in the Museum also includes a pizza snack, continental breakfast, an IMAX® screening of Whales and a hair-raising popular live show Electric Theater.

Dallas Sierra Club: Wilderness Navigation Class - Part 1&2

Learn the fundamentals of finding your way in the wilderness in this two-evening class. Among the subjects covered are: purchasing maps, how to read maps, how not to get lost, what to do if you do get lost, GPS, different kinds of compasses and how to use your compass. If you have a compass, bring it to the class. If you don't have one, we will show you what to look for when you purchase one. The fee for the class is $15 for Sierra Club members and $20 for non-members (CASH or CHECK ONLY - NO CREDIT CARDS). Handout included. Bring water bottle and writing utensil if you want to take notes. No reservations are necessary; just show up.
