Bird Walk - McKinney

The Heard Museum and Prairie and Timbers Audubon Society offer guided bird walks on the Heard Museum and Sanctuary on the second Saturday of each month, September - May. Walks begin promptly at 8 a.m. and last 1.5 hours. If you come a few minutes late the group may have already started their walk so it is important to be on time. Walks are free with regular admission.

Heard Museum Anniversary - McKinney

Activities include: - Preview of Dinosaurs Live! Life-Size Animatronic Dinosaurs along a nature trail.
- Guided trails.
- Enjoy Native Texas Butterfly House & Garden.
- Historical Exhibits.
- Hourly Drawings.
- Visit with Heard affinity groups.
- Animal talks and interpretation at animal enclosures.
- Blackland Prairie Raptor presentation.

Owl Prowl Night Hike - McKinney

Non-members $20/person; members $17/person.
Reservations (required) for this annual event sell out early each year. See a live owl presentation and participate in a guided night hike on our sanctuary trails and experience nature in a whole new way.

All night hikes depart from the main building. Closed toed shoes, long pants and bug spray are recommended. Bring a flashlight with a red lens on it to protect your night vision while looking for nocturnal animals. Participants will be outdoors for at least an hour.

Fall Night Hike - McKinney

The fall night hike will include a bonus 5:30 p.m. showing of "Green Fire." The movie details the life and career of Aldo Leopold, the father of the modern conservation movement. All ages are welcome to watch, but will be best enjoyed by those at least 13 years and older. Cost: $14 non-members/$12 members (Age 3 years through adult). Pre-registration required.

Live Green in Plano Volunteer Training - Plano

Held on six consecutive Thursdays.
• Get the scoop on green living topics such as water conservation, responsible yard care,
managing household waste, green building and renovation, energy efficiency and air quality.

• Understand how daily decisions impact the environment - for better and for worse.

• Discover simple ways to inspire people in making greener choices.

• Contribute 24 hours of volunteer service, matching your passion for the environment with
new skills and fun opportunities.

Creek Cleanup - Plano

Organize friends, family, neighbors and coworkers to participate. Select a creek in Plano you'd like to clean or one will be assigned. Pre-registration required. Register online at livegreenplano.com. Coffee, pastries and inspiration at 9:30 a.m.

Birds' Christmas Tree - Fort Worth

Share your holiday gift giving with our feathered friends. Children of all ages are invited to make biodegradable bird treats ahead of time and bring them to the event to hang in the Garden’s Grove, providing food for wildlife and a little holiday cheer. This free event, complete with music and entertainment, is one of Fort Worth’s oldest holiday traditions.

Harvest Hike HootnHowl - Southlake

This free event offers lots of animals provided by the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, Westland Ranch Petting Zoo and Matt Morris’ turtles. You can explore the beautiful Nature Center & Preserve through docent-led and self-guided hikes highlighting trail activities such as the Corn Fling, Pumpkin Ring Toss, and Build-a-Bug - just to name a few. Other activities include games and music by Radio Disney, storytelling, outdoor demonstrations, the Southlake Fire Department and the first annual Coyote Howling Contest. Free caramel apples, popcorn and cider will be available while supplies last. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase. Free parking with shuttle service or walking paths will be available from the Equestrian Center at Bob Jones Park. Handicap Parking is available on a first-come basis at the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve.
