Nature Scavenger Hunt - Plano

Join the excitement of the hunt as you search for different locations and features at either Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve or Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. This is a great opportunity to learn about the diverse characteristics that make these preserves a special place. Everyone 12 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult. 

We will meet at the pavilion by the lake.  Come prepared to hike by wearing comfortable clothing and footwear. Parents with small children may want to bring a stroller. Bring water and snacks.

Mother-Daughter Camping Trip - Plano

Hey moms and daughters, have you ever wanted to learn the basics of camping, but didn't know where to start? If so join Plano Parks and Recreation on an overnight trip to Mineral Wells State Park where you will learn the basics of camping from the professionals from Frisco Outfitters. All supplies and meals covered. Everyone attending must register. A pre-trip meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 3, at 6:30 pm at Liberty Recreation Center.

Beginner Kayaking at Oak Point Park - Plano

Learn beginning kayaking skills at the lake located at City of Plano's Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. This class will be under the direction of an American Canoe Association (ACA) certified instructor who will teach you the ACA Quick Start program. Boats, paddles, and life jackets will be provided. Participants will be required to sign liability waivers. Everyone 17 years of age or younger MUST be accompanied by a registered adult.

Please be aware that while the nature preserve is in City limits, there is wildlife that make the area their home. Animals you might encounter at the perseve can be birds, mamamals and repetils, which includes land and water snakes. You should always be aware of your surroundings while at the preserve and if you come across wildlife respect its habitat and move to another area. You will need to bring the following supplies: Water, Snacks, Aqua soaks or sandles, Sunscreen, Cap, Change of clothes, Towel, Sunglasses.

Fossil Finders Exploration (6-10yrs) - Plano

Ages: 6 Yrs. to 10 Yrs.

Travel back in time when Plano was covered in water. Explore Rowlett Creek for fossils and other interesting things and discover your place in history! 

Please have your child bring a water bottle and use the bath room prior to attending this class. The Parks and Recreation Staff will no longer have access to the building. Parents will have to remain outside or drop off your child and return to pick them up. Thank you for your understanding.

This session explores two LEED credit categories, Water Efficiency and Innovation in Design, in a credit by credit format, reviewing the overall category intents and the individual intents of the prerequisites and credits within it. Fran Witte of the City of Irving wants people to recycle graywataer but wants them to do it within city, county, state codes. So Irving is offering this free class but you must register to take it. DIRECTIONS: From I-30 Exit 53A (N Buckner Blvd/TX Loop 12 N), go north on Buckner Blvd. Turn left on Poppy. From I-635 Exit 14 (Plano Rd), go south on Plano Rd, which turns into Lake Highlands Dr. Turn left onto N Buckner Blvd/TX Loop 12 S. Turn right on Poppy. Take the second turn-in for the hospital. Note: The hospital is on the left, and offices with attached garage are on the right. Park in Lot A or the free garage. Enter the automatic door below the “Hospital Entrance” sign; go to the Communication Office on the left, Room 112, across from the women’s restroom. Ask the hospital operator for the walk box, register in the lobby, and then return the box to the operator.
