Blackland Native Prairie Association of Texas: Meeting - Dallas

The Native Prairies Association of Texas Dallas Chapter now has a name: Blackland Native Prairie Association of Texas (BNPAT). This newly formed chapter is a branch of the Native Prairies Association of Texas and will represent 13 Blackland counties: Collin, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Henderson, Hunt, Kaufman, Lamar, Navarro, Rains, Rockwall and Van Zandt. 

At this meeting, members will be asked to give input on projects, workshops, field trips and other activities that they would like implemented in the coming year.

Women in the Environment: Art with Repurpose Eco Art Show - Addison

Women in the Environment, a DFW-based networking and educational organization for women pursuing environmental careers, is having their annual Art with RePurpose event on Sept. 11.   

It will feature unique eco-art and jewelry for sale made with recycled, repurposed, upcycled, sustainable and organic materials. 

There will be food, wine and a silent auction.

$10-$20/pre-reg by Aug.31, $15-$25/at door.

North Texas Giving Day

Donations can be made 6 a.m. to midnight to more than 1,600 certified nonprofits listed on www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org, including 56 local environmental advocacy groups. Donations of $25 and above will be amplified by $2 million in bonus funds and prizes.

Native Plant Society of Texas: Urban Bumblebees in Denton County - Dallas

Monthly meeting of the Dallas chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas.

Bumblebees are declining worldwide in part due to the habitat changes associated with urban sprawl. However, establishing and maintaining urban green spaces may help to attenuate those declines. This presentation will discuss ongoing research about the use of urban green spaces by bumblebees in Denton County.

Speaker Bio - Jessica Beckham is a PhD student in environmental science at the University of North Texas. Her research involves a multidisciplinary approach to studying the bumblebees of northeast Texas. In particular, she is interested in finding ways that humans and bees can coexist.
