Sustainable Rose Gardening - Dallas

Growing roses in Texas is easier than you think, and who wouldn’t want more roses in their garden? Al Olson, Arboretum Greenhouse Volunteer and avid rose gardener, will show you how to easily add roses throughout the garden as well as the varieties that stand up to our Texas growing conditions. Learn how to prepare your soil, maintenance and pruning techniques, good watering practices and which roses you can easily grow from cuttings. Al will take you on a brief tour through the trial garden to check out varieties that are being tested at the Arboretum.

Rainwater Harvesting - Dallas

Don’t let your rain go down the drain! Water is becoming an ever more precious commodity and saving water in your yard is something that you can do with ease. Dr. Dotty Woodson, Extension Program Specialist – Water Resources, will share basic water harvesting strategies, how to calculate the amount of water that you can capture and then help you construct your own rain barrel. Each student will construct and go home with a rain barrel that is ready to start capturing water on their property. Join us to find out how to keep your garden beautiful with the water that Mother Nature provides.

Irrigation Insights for Drought Conditions - Dallas


Summer is right around the corner and there is nothing more important than making sure that your plants get just the right amount of precious water during that time. Join Amanda Griffin, Texas licensed irrigator and water educator, as she shows you how to master your irrigation system!  Amanda will show you how different components affect water usage, and strategies to help get the maximum plant health for the minimum amount of water.  You will leave with a true understanding of the critical part that an irrigation system plays in a beautiful, healthy landscape.

Earth Day Dallas features two days of engaging exhibits, compelling speakers, music, entertainment, food and fun for everyone. Join us April 21-22, 2012 in Fair Park to see how you can make a difference.

Celebrate Earth Day at this fun festival with exhibits, speakers, films, music, food & more focused on making a positive impact on our environment.

The heart of the festival is the Eco Expo, and exhibitors will use their presence to promote their achievements as green leaders, and teach attendees how to take environmentally responsible action by better utilizing available resources, switching to eco-friendly products, or joining their organizations.

In addition to the Eco Expo, attendees will have a number of educational entertainment options, which will include:

We can only benefit by understanding better the available routes to clean energy. PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE DATE CHANGE!!!!

Casey will be sharing with our group not only how Solar systems work, how to price them, how to size them, but will also talk to us about his company and how they are trying to make it affordable for regular folks to get them installed.

Dallas/Ft. Worth Population Study Group Open Meeting - Dallas

The Dallas/Ft. Worth Population Study Group is holding an open meeting on Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 at 6:30pm at the Crow Museum in the Arts District of downtown Dallas.

 The mission of the group is “To study, discuss and help support ethical solutions to international human population issues as they relate to environmental conservation, the strengthening of human rights and improving global health”.

 

Interested parties are cordially invited to attend, meet others interested in these important issues and get involved. Drinks and appetizers will be provided.
