Joy Kiser, author of America’s Other Audubon, to speak at Dallas Museum of Art

Audubon Dallas and the North Texas Master Naturalists present author Joy M. Kiser at the Dallas Museum of Art Saturday, June 23 at 1:00pm. Ms. Kiser’s book, America’s Other Audubon, tells the remarkable story of self-taught naturalist and illustrator, Genevieve Jones, and her life’s work, Illustrations of the Nests and Eggs of the Birds of Ohio. A sampling of Jones’s exquisitely detailed lithographs of birds’ nests will also be on display, on loan from the Museum of Nature & Science Mudge Library. The talk is free with admission to the museum.

Farmers Market Tour & Cooking Class - Fort Worth

Meet your local small family farmers, learn about seasonal ingredients and find out how chefs shop the market for the best produce. Led by market veteran Chef Gwin Grimes, class will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cowtown Farmers Market to shop, then move to our commercial kitchen to prepare and taste at least three dishes starring local vegetables. Learn to feel comfortable selecting the best produce and cooking dishes using professional techniques that ensure success without being tied down to a recipe. This is a techniques-driven class, and includes discussion and notes about stocking your pantry with the basics for "on-the-fly" meals.

Gary Olp, environmental architect, will discuss how the built environment has an effect on ourselves and all living organisms and systems, and will show examples of architecture that integrates buildings into the natural environment.

We are becoming more removed from a sense of reverence for the wild places.  Every square inch of soil under our feet is a wild place, home to living organisms and a teeming unseen wilderness!

Frances Moore Lappé, author of the 1971 best-seller "Diet for a Small Planet" and the 2011 book "Eco-Mind", will speak at First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1959 Sandy Lane, Fort Worth, Texas, on June 24  at 11 a.m.
 
The engagement is free and open to the public. Lappé will be signing books following her talk.
