North Texas Giving Day

Donations can be made 6 a.m. to midnight to more than 1,600 certified nonprofits listed on www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org, including 56 local environmental advocacy groups. Donations of $25 and above will be amplified by $2 million in bonus funds and prizes.

University of North Texas: Sustainability 101 - Denton

Sustainability 101 is a core course of UNT’s Sustainability Leadership Program. Engage in classroom discussions on the most challenging issues and see sustainability in action on the UNT Sustainability Tour. LEED professionals earn three CEUs for the tour. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

John Bunker Sands Wetland Center: Classroom Recycling Made Easy - Seagoville

Teachers earn 3 CPE credits. Workshop includes door-prizes, classroom give-aways and every teacher receives a CD with resources. Workshop limited to first 30 registrants. 

 Get your first step into the ‘cool’ of recycling. Teach students how to make recycling easy and the importance of the Earth as a resource we can and should take care for. Learn about the 4Rs of recycling, available resources for developing schoolyard recycling programs, plus other outdoor and classroom activities in this popular workshop. Included are classroom activities to understand recycling the organic way with earthworms – Vermicomposting. Decomposition, compost critters and life-cycles will be discussed. All activities presented in workshop are aligned with TEKS standards.

"Vision North Texas 2050: How Local Communities and Businesses Can Position North Texas for a Fiscally and Environmentally Sustainable Future."
 
Presentor Kevin Shepherd is a principal and co-founder of Verdunity, Inc., a Dallas-Fort Worth-based consulting firm specializing in planning and design of sustainable communities and infrastructure.  

Shepherd will present he results and findings of the multi-year planning and visioning effort that culminated in the release of the award-winning Vision North Texas 2050 Plan. He will also discuss current global and national trends, highlight a few projects from North Texas that are incorporating new approaches and offer some suggestions on how cities can position themselves to stay competitive in recruiting and retaining businesses and residents.
