After Dark in the Park - Arlington

Held Oct. 5-7 from 5 p.m. to 9 .m. This family-friendly fall festival features storytelling, karaoke, pumpkin patch, animal encounters, bounce houses and a variety of children's games, crafts and activities. All proceeds benefit the environmental education programs of River Legacy Living Science Center. Concessions and some activities have additional costs. Admission is $7. Geocaching 101 - Arlington

This adult workshop will introduce you to the technology of this techno-treasure hunt. Instructor Chad Etheridge will lead you through separating fact and fiction, demystifying space-age GPS technology and simplifying the concept of latitude and longitude. Workshop will include an hour indoor presentation followed by outdoor work in the field to discover some actual geocaches. Bring a GPS unit or GPS-equipped smart phone. A limited supply of GPS units will be available. Best suited for ages 10 and up. Space is limited, please RSVP to 817-860-6752.

Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-Up - White Rock Lake

This monthly cleanup event is hosted by For the Love of Lake. Meet at the For the Love of the Lake office in Casa Linda Plaza at 8 a.m., where you can collect your supplies. Before heading out, you'll be treated to Starbucks coffee, delicious orange juice and rich chocolate milk from Oak Farms Dairy, delicious goodies provided by Another Broken Egg Cafe, other breakfast treats and plenty of refreshing Rain Fresh bottled water. Supplies are provided, including trash bags, recycling bags (courtesy of the city of Dallas Recycling Department), reach-it tools and gloves.

Join the Noble Planetarium staff and members of the Fort Worth Astronomical Society for free monthly Star Parties. You’ll find plenty of telescopes for viewing and even more astronomy buffs to help you navigate your way through the skies. Star Parties are held once a month held in front of the museum, on Gendy Street. The party begins at dusk, weather permitting, and lasts until approximately 10:30 p.m. Note, parking is available in the lot south of Harley Street. Please note, parking surrounding the museum is paid parking managed by the City of Fort Worth.

All About Composting - Plano

Is your yard work piling up? Let it! Learn the basics of turning that garden debris into garden gold through composting. We cover what to put in, what to leave out, and how to mix, moisten and manage your way to successful soil enrichment. We'll also teach you to use specialized red worms to compost your food waste and create a fertile soil amendment for plants.

Kids Club at the Dallas Zoo - Dallas

Kids Club is a joint program of the Dallas Zoo, Dallas Museum of Art, Perot Museum of Nature & Science, Dallas Arboretum, Trinity River Audubon Center and Crow Collection of Asian Art. Each institution hosts an exclusive event once a year for all Kids Club members.
