Geocaching 101 - Cedar Hill

Geocaching is a scavenger/treasure hunt using GPS units and coordinates to find the treasure. It is the fastest growing outdoor activity in the world. Learn more at this workshop. No equipment or experience needed. This program is limited to 10 families/small groups as the number of GPS units is limited. Call Michelle at 972-291-5940 to check availability. The program is available to the general public and will be held in an outdoor amphitheater that is wheelchair and stroller accessible. All programs are subject to weather conditions.

Bird Walk - McKinney

The Heard Museum and Prairie and Timbers Audubon Society offer guided bird walks on the Heard Museum and Sanctuary on the second Saturday of each month, September - May. Walks begin promptly at 8 a.m. and last 1.5 hours. If you come a few minutes late the group may have already started their walk so it is important to be on time. Walks are free with regular admission.

Heard Museum Anniversary - McKinney

Activities include: - Preview of Dinosaurs Live! Life-Size Animatronic Dinosaurs along a nature trail.
- Guided trails.
- Enjoy Native Texas Butterfly House & Garden.
- Historical Exhibits.
- Hourly Drawings.
- Visit with Heard affinity groups.
- Animal talks and interpretation at animal enclosures.
- Blackland Prairie Raptor presentation.
- Hamburger or hotdog and a bottled drink.

Owl Prowl Night Hike - McKinney

Non-members $20/person; members $17/person.
Reservations (required) for this annual event sell out early each year. See a live owl presentation and participate in a guided night hike on our sanctuary trails and experience nature in a whole new way.

All night hikes depart from the main building. Closed toed shoes, long pants and bug spray are recommended. Bring a flashlight with a red lens on it to protect your night vision while looking for nocturnal animals. Participants will be outdoors for at least an hour.

Fall Night Hike - McKinney

The fall night hike will include a bonus 5:30 p.m. showing of "Green Fire." The movie details the life and career of Aldo Leopold, the father of the modern conservation movement. All ages are welcome to watch, but will be best enjoyed by those at least 13 years and older. Cost: $14 non-members/$12 members (Age 3 years through adult). Pre-registration required.

City Green Kids Camp - Dallas

Two 3-week sessions will be held each Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
The camps will explore self and community impact & ways to live green ending with “A dream for a better tomorrow.”
Register for your session at ejdry54@yahoo.com. $50 per child, ages 4-9.
Families are welcome to stay and enjoy the garden during the camp!

October camp (Oct. 7-21) concludes with a Frightfully Fresh Fest on October 21 and 28 - from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
November camp (Nov. 4-18) concludes with a Harvest Moon Fest.
