Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Meet & Greet - Fort Worth

Join us for some good company and cheap eats! Tuesday is $1 burger night from 5 p.m. until closing, so you can chow down on a hamburger, turkey burger or Portobello burger for only a
buck. We will meet at the large tables to your right as you walk in the door. Learn more about the Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club and our activities, and meet some new people who are also interested in enjoying the great outdoors and conserving our land and resources.

Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: 'The Essential Bat' - Fort Worth

Kate Rugroden, director of special projects for Bat World Sanctuary, will give a presentation based on her book, The Essential Bat. She will introduce these extraordinary creatures and the many ways they affect human life. Special attention is given to White Nose Syndrome, a fungal disease that is devastating bat populations throughout the U.S. Kate will bring bats to show as part of the program. Bat World Sanctuary is located in Cool, Texas near Mineral Wells for the rehabilitation of bats and has worldwide prominence. A suggested donation of $3 will help us defray program costs.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it. Free. Vegan donuts from Hypnotic Donuts will be available.

Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center: 'Broadview: A Spectrum of Nature' Art Exhibit - Fort Worth

Art show and sale hosted by the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center.

Forty-four local artists were juried into the show, which features the native flora, fauna and landscapes of North Central Texas. Proceeds from exhibition sales will benefit the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge in its efforts to restore the historic Broadview overlook, which the Civilian Conservation Corps constructed in the 1930s.

Audubon Dallas: Project Bird Safe: Reducing Bird Building Collisions in Urban Areas - Dallas

Collision with glass and buildings is recognized as the number two killer of birds in the United States, taking out hundreds of millions of birds annually. Tania will discuss the latest research on birds and building collisions, how Bird Safe and Lights Out initiatives are working to make migration safer for birds, and ways to take action in your community and in your own back yard. 

Tania joined Audubon Texas in July 2011 as the senior manager for conservation and education at the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center and served as its interim center director from September 2012through February 2013. As senior conservation biologist, she is developing Audubon Texas’ urban conservation initiative.The goal of her work is to develop programs and activities that support NorthTexas’ unique biodiversity and encourage people to make their own communities and backyards bird and wildlife-friendly. She completed her PhD in conservation biology at the University of Minnesota, while investigating the impacts of urban development on migratinglandbirds through citizen science monitoring.

Citizens Climate Lobby: Meeting - Grand Prairie

Citizen's Climate Lobby (CCL) is a non-profit nonpartisan organization working on creating the political will for a livable world. CCL's mission is to empower normal citizens, who care about their world, to engage in conversations with their elected officials.

Agenda for this month’s meeting: Introductions and action items for the month from 11am to noon. From noon to 1pm, we will listen to the national call with the guest speaker, Charles Kennel, former director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He recently co-authored an article in the journal Nature arguing that it is time to abandon the 2C warming goal and track a range of vital signs instead, provoking “hot” debate in the climate science world.
