Sierra Club Day Hike - Ft Worth

Meet at the Hardwicke Interpretative Visitors Center parking lot at Fort Worth Nature Center. After you enter the refuge pay your entrance fee and follow signs to Hardwicke. We will hike a 4-5 mile section of trails. Bring water, snacks, and raingear. Nature Center is located in NW Tarrant County on Lake Worth. Take Highway 199 exit west toward Azle off 820 West on western edge of Fort Worth. Leader: Claudia Blalock, 817-924-6242. For more information on Nature Center, visit www.fwnaturecenter.org. In the event of rain, hike is cancelled. No dogs please.

Current Admission fees:

$5 Adults (13-64)
$2 Children (3-12;under 3 FREE)
$3 Seniors (65+)
$1 Discount per person (with Military ID)

Children's Holiday Workshop: Animal Decorations - McKinney

Ages: 5–12 year olds

Cost: $30/child per class; sibling discount $25/each sibling per class 

Preregistration Required

Please dress your student adventurer in long pants,
closed toe shoes and jacket or coat as needed.

All decoration materials are included.
A light animal cracker snack will be provided.

Animal Decorations: Each child will have an opportunity to create an assortment of animal decorations inspired by some of the animals found at the Heard. A nature walk on the sanctuary will include visits to the indoor and outdoor animal exhibits. And each child will get an up close and personal visit from one our animal ambassadors

Nature Ornaments: Using wood collected from our sanctuary, each child will have the opportunity to create a couple of decorations for your home this holiday season. A visit from a live animal ambassador and a nature hike on our sanctuary will focus on the winter beauty of the outdoors.

Winter Wildlife Treats: Kids will create healthy, fun, food items that are safe to feed our local animals and birds in the winter. A live animal ambassador will come to visit with the kids. A nature hike on our beautiful sanctuary will highlight the needs of animals in winter.

Holiday Trail of Lights - McKinney

Bundle up your family, get out of the house, and experience the most unique holiday lighting display in North Texas!

Support the Heard and have fun with the whole family at this fun holiday event.  See thousands of holiday décor and lights—many synchronized to holiday music—along a half mile Heard nature trail. Have a photo taken with Father Christmas and Mother Nature in a festive setting. Enjoy hot beverages and treatsFamily-friendly entertainment will complement the holiday atmosphere. Listen to live holiday music in the Heard outdoor amphitheater performed by local groups. New this year: watch for strolling carolers and entertainers!

Holiday Botany - Ft Worth

Poinsettias, pumpkins, and olives…oh my! Come join us for a festive Family Saturday at BRIT: Holiday Botany! See, smell, and touch the plants we decorate, celebrate, and even eat during the holiday season. Fun hands-on activities will engage learners of any age so be sure to bring your whole family. Come and go as you please; event is free to the public.

Birding Field Trip - Dallas

Field Trip with the Dallas Audubon Society

White Rock Lake & Old Fish Hatchery

Meeting Place: New parking lot on Winstead off Garland Road (Spillway)
Description: Join us for a field trip on foot at one of Dallas' prime birding locations. Beginners welcome! Binoculars are necessary for this outing.
Approximately 2 to 3 hours

Bird & Nature Walk - Athens

Join us on our monthly bird watching outing during one of the best birding times of the year.  Expect to see 25 or more different species as we explore our Interpretive Wetland Trail and other areas of the hatchery.  Bring binoculars and field guide if you have them (not required).

Regular admission is $5.50 for adults, $4.50 for seniors 65 and older, and $3.50 for children ages 4 through 12. Pets are not allowed on TFFC grounds.

Building Squirrel Boxes - Arlington

Learn about our urban forester, the fox squirrel, and how to provide an alternative nest for the mother-to-be squirrel in your landscape other than in your attic! You will build your own squirrel nest  box to take home with you during this workshop at River Legacy Living Science Center. Best suited for ages 10 and up. Space is limited, please RSVP to 817.860.6752. Cost is $15 and covers materials to create your nest box.
