Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service: The Urban Harvest - Foraging in the City - Dallas

The city is full of food ripe for the picking. Learn how to identify (and legally acquire) more traditional foods like edible fruits, nuts and naturalized vegetables, as well as wild edibles, edible flowers and even edible weeds that are well adapted to our extreme climate and commonly found in North Texas neighborhoods. Bring a hat, a camera and wear your walking shoes. Plant list provided. Free.

Frankford Preservation Foundation: Summer Prairie Tour - Dallas

The four-acre native prairie is near the Frankford Church and Frankford Cemetery.

Master naturalist Rich Jaynes will lead the tour, identifying the summative plants in bloom. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the rare four-acre remnant of the Blackland Prairie.

Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Botanical Research Institute of Texas Tour - Fort Worth

Learn about BRIT’s research programs, herbarium, libraries, educational programs and sustainable building. BRIT is green from the ground up; learn how and why as you tour BRIT's amazing LEED platinum home. The Fort Worth Sierra Club will be joining a public tour that is given the first Saturday of each month. Must RSVP before July 1. RSVPs will be closed after that date. Meet at the main entrance. Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club: Davis Mts State Park Camping - Fort Worth (Thru Aug 16)

Need a cooling off during the hot days in Texas? The Davis Mts. are your relief from the heat!  You will need a jacket during the beautiful mornings and evenings in the Davis Mts.  

Some of the events of this outing - dinner in Marfa at the El Paisano Hotel, viewing the amazing Marfa lights, short hikes at the Chihuahua Desert Cactus Research Station and a visit to the McDonald Observatory.

Fort Davis is the only state park where you can bring an RV, camp in a tent or stay in the beautiful Indian Lodge.  (Nice restaurant  in the lodge.)

You can make your reservations for RV's, camp sites or rooms in the lodge through the Texas Park and Wildlife web site.  The lodge fills up fast, so make reservations ASAP.

Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area: Community Day - Arlington

This month we will be repairing our mulch trails, weeding our wildflower bed and grooming our Butterfly Garden. We'll also be picking up litter and trimming our trails.

Please bring your favorite gardening tools, work gloves, or litter picker upper.

Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for working in a natural area 

(long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, hat).

Water and snacks will be available.

O.S. Gray Natural Area has no restroom facilities, but Kroger is nearby.
