Kennedale's Urban Bird Treaty - Arlington

The Urban Bird Treaty/Urban Conservation Treaty for Migratory Birds is a U.S. Fish and Wildlife grant program that works with cities to promote conservation of migratory birds through education, conservation and habitat improvement.

Rachel will tell us how Kennedale was awarded the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service grant (one of only 2 cities in Texas and less than 20 across the U.S.) and about the various aspects of their program. She'll talk about Kennedale's accomplishments with the program as well as adaptations needed to reach the program's goals….and how this information might help other groups that might want to learn from their experience.

Indian Marker Trees - Dallas

Hosted by the Dallas Historic Tree Coalition. Steve Houser, a consulting arborist for more than 30 years and past DHTC President, will talk about Indian Marker Trees. He will explain what a marker tree is and explore the controversy about their existence, who proclaims them to be real, and other history on the subject. We will also learn about other groups in the country that are researching these trees, and what DHTC is doing in our region. You will learn the typical shapes seen in these trees, and will hear about the trees we are finding in Texas. Reserve a space at info@DHTC.org no later than Monday, Oct. 15.
