This week we began a bold new chapter with the launch of Green Source Texas.
Thanks to our longtime tech partner David Hahn and his team at Fireroad Digital, we’ve got a fresh look and new logo. They’ve kept Green Source running smoothly since they built the first site more than a decade ago. We're grateful to have their technical expertise and generous support as we embark on this new chapter.
Also thanks to the Dallas-based Memnosyne Institute and its founders Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk and Joshua Frenk. The local humanitarian nonprofit founded Green Source DFW in 2011 and recently funded the redesign. The original site was the brain child of former Memnosyne environmental director Phillip Shinoda. He came up with the idea for Green Source as a way to unite like-minded people scattered across the 100-mile wide Metroplex.
In 2016, Wendel Withrow took over as director of Green Source and grew it to the next level. Over the years, he launched a number of new innovations including a podcast called Texas Green Report, a Zoomcast during the pandemic and a series called Adventures with Hank, featuring his alter ego. This year, he realized his longtime dream of expanding our coverage beyond DFW's limits.
For my part, I started out as a reporter for Green Source in 2011, became assistant editor shortly after and took over as editor in 2013. Over the last 14 years, I've been amazed and inspired by the hundreds of dedicated and innovative folks I've met growing organic gardens, starting green businesses, saving wildspaces, picking up litter, going solar, driving electric and spearheading environmental policy in North Texas. Now I'm thrilled to dig into what's happening in other regions of the state.
We owe so much to our staff of top-notch contributors, who continue to report on a broad range of environmental topics, keep their ears to the ground and fill in gaps unfilled by other news outlets.
Finally, we appreciate our readers and supporters who are very much a part of the success of this endeavor. By sharing our stories, you have helped us build our readership. With your comments and emails, you encourage, challenge and inform us daily.
Thank you!
Julie Thibodeaux, Green Source Texas Editor
