North Lake sustainability educator honored by Irving mayor

Brandon Morton, North Lake College's sustainability project coordinator, received the 2017 Mayor and Keep Irving Beautiful Educator Award for his dedication to sustainability education. His efforts include designing workshops, managing the SAGE Scholars program, and serving in community roles, contributing significantly to the college's and community's sustainability initiatives.

Lunch & Learn: Lancaster STEM students grow food with aquaponics

LANCASTER – Elsie Robertson Lancaster Middle School STEM students dined on food they grew in the classroom at their Lettuce Harvesting Luncheon in March. The organic produce was grown using aquaponics; a skill that combines STEM disciplines – science, technology, engineering and math – and farming in order to raise fish and grow fresh produce without soil.

A visit to Texas Pure

Texas Pure takes leaf bags, clippings, fallen trees and shrubs... and turns them into a variety of compost and mulch products. Texas Pure started in 1992 as 'Plano Pure,' a city of Plano program developed and championed by Nancy Neville. Funded by grants initially, it is now one of the largest operations in Texas and it is only two years away from seeing significant profits.
