Plastic plant fire in Grand Prairie should be wake-up call, say environmentalists

An industrial fire at the Poly-America plastics plant in Grand Prairie, caused by a fallen power line, spread toxic smoke and required extensive firefighting foam. Residents were advised to stay indoors. Environmentalists call for reduced reliance on plastics, citing health risks from burning plastics and industry pollution.

Enrollment open for DFW community organizing school

Downwinders at Risk's College of Constructive Hell-Raising in DFW, starting January 16, 2018, trains activists in social change strategies, historical context, and networking. Enrollment for 20 students is $200, with classes held bi-weekly at Meadows Conference Center, featuring veteran speakers and a focus on effective campaign initiation.

North Texas greenies gather for Green Source DFW Awards

North Texas environmentalists celebrated achievements at the Green Source DFW Sustainability Leadership Awards, hosted by the Memnosyne Institute. We had a great turnout for the Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards Voting! Nearly 4,500 ballots were cast online. Now that the contest has been narrowed to the top three finalists in each category, a panel of judges selected from the North Texas green community will decide the final winners.

Texas environmental atlas maps out state’s ecological legacy

There's plenty of Texas lore to read in The Texas Landscape Project: Nature and People but environmentalists, Texas history buffs and geography lovers alike will enjoy just perusing its maps, aerial views and historic photos. The richly illustrated 500-page environmental history atlas was published by Texas A&M University Press in June.
