Electric buses to link up popular Fort Worth stops

Fort Worth is introducing four zero-emissions battery-electric buses, starting Sept. 22, connecting downtown, the Cultural District, and entertainment areas. This public/private initiative aims to reduce noise and emissions, with funding assistance from community partners and a charging station to support the 150-mile range vehicles.

Local candidates rated ‘green’ by DFW groups

Candidates in Dallas’ and Fort Worth’s municipal elections go before voters this Election Day, Saturday - some with endorsements from  two prominent environmental groups. 

Nineteen aspirants for mayor and city council in Dallas, along with council and county water board in Fort Worth, got green thumbs-ups.

General Honoré: Find common ground to save 'Mother Earth'

Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, a renowned emergency preparedness expert, toured toxic sites in Dallas and urged for collaboration in environmental justice efforts. Emphasizing teamwork, he criticized polluters and praised North Texas's potential to address environmental wrongs, highlighting the importance of recognizing problems to create jobs and opportunities.

Good news for North Texas lungs! Last week, a local consortium working for air monitoring won a victory. 

The North Texas Clean Air Network was unanimously approved by Dallas City Council’s Quality of Life Committee to go to the full Council for consideration Dec. 12. QoL will brief Council on Dec. 5. 

Air monitoring training to be held in Dallas

Downwinders at Risk is hosting a free air monitoring training on Sept. 22 at GoodWork, Dallas. Attendees will learn to use portable monitors for the DFW Air Research Consortium. After three sessions, participants can borrow monitors for projects. The event involves classroom and field training.

TCEQ hearing on VW settlement to be held in Arlington

The Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance invites environmentalists to attend the TCEQ hearing on the Texas Volkswagen Settlement Plan in Arlington, addressing over $200 million from the VW emissions scandal. A pre-hearing conference call will be held on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. to prepare attendees.

Dallas Sierra Club launches speakers program

The club now provides speakers on environmental topics for free.

On Monday, the city of Dallas set in motion the process for creating a climate action plan with the approval of a budget amendment by the Council’s Quality of Life Committee. 

Calls for an environmental plan that includes a climate action plan had been raised by environmentalists at City Council town hall meetings held during the month of August.

Nature Conservancy targets Dallas air pollution

The Nature Conservancy is partnering with Dallas' Office of Environmental Quality to tackle air quality, childhood asthma, and school absenteeism. Their Breathe Easy Dallas project will collect data from nine schools to inform interventions, aiming to offer a model for high-risk areas, emphasizing local action over federal reliance.
