Did you know that you can find a 500-year-old oak tree, a freshwater spring, beavers, deer and a rare lily that few Texans have ever seen in the center of Dallas? The Great Trinity Forest is 6,000+ acres of hardwood wilderness, but remains one of the city’s best kept secrets.
Local naturalist Ben Sandifer will introduce you to the forest during a presentation at The Mix Coworking & Creative Space located in the basement of the White Rock United Methodist Church in Little Forest Hills.
Sandifer is an award-winning nature photographer and author who has chronicled every corner of the forest at DallasTrinityTrails.com. His collaboration with the community, city officials and the media, helped earn him the 2015 Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Volunteer of the Year Award. He has also been nominated for 2015 Texan of the Year by the Dallas Morning News and was recognized by BC Workshop as a 2015 Dallas Community Hero.
Ben is a 4th generation Dallasite, 6th generation Texan, Eagle Scout and professional accountant by day. On weekends he can frequently be found riding his mountain bike or hiking in remote areas of the Trinity with his camera in hand. His award-winning nature and wildlife photographs have been showcased in local, state and national contests and publications. Selections of his bird call audio recordings are featured with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
