Trash Makeover Fashion & Art Reuse Challenge - Austin

TCE is throwing an exciting party at Highland Mall in Austin to celebrate Texas Campaign for the Environment’s 20 years of protecting our air, water, land and health – and you’re invited to join the party or become a sponsor! The celebration will be TCE’s first-ever Trash Makeover: Fashion Reuse Challenge. Judged by a celebrity panel with Liz Watson serving as emcee, local designers will compete with each other by creating fashions comprised of recycled materials. The VIP reception begins at 6 pm and the main event is from 7 to 9 pm in a former clothing store on the lower level of the mall.

Click here to sponsor the event or to purchase tickets. $50/person Admission

If you are unable to attend but want to be involved, please consider giving a 20th Anniversary contribution.

The Trash Makeover will be a Zero Waste event - at least 90% of discards will be reused, recycled or composted.

Bison Tour - Lewisville

Bison Tour: Last Sunday of each month (except July and August), 2:00 p.m. (time subject to change during the heat of the summer)

Once each month, visitors are invited to roam over to LLELA’s bison area for a guided tour. Participants will meet herd owner Robert Vaughan at the gatehouse, then drive out for an opportunity to see the bison up close (great photo opportunity!) and learn more about bison natural history and husbandry.

All ages are welcome; registration is required at 972-219-7980. The tour is available for only $2/person in addition to LLELA’s regular gate fee of $5/person. The bison are normally off view in a secure area of LLELA, so this is a chance to visit a part of the preserve most people don’t get to see.

Lake Worth Monster Bash - Ft Worth

Forty-two years ago, Fort Worth was abuzz with reported sightings of the Lake Worth Monster - described as a hairy, scaly 7-foot-tall man-goat-beast. Though sightings of the creature haven't occurred regularly since the summer of 1969, the annual Lake Worth Monster Bash keeps alive the local legend and its habitat. The 2011 celebration is just around the corner and you will want to be a part of this fun-filled family event!

Sierra Club Movie Night "David Versus Monsanto" - Dallas

Movie night! We will furnish popcorn and drinks. If you want, bring you own favorite snacks.

Imagine that a storm blows across your garden and that now, without your knowledge or
consent, genetically modified seeds are in your vegetable patch which you have nourished for
many years. A few days later, a multi-national corporation demands that you surrender your
vegetables -- and files a criminal complaint against you, resulting in a large fine for the illegal
use of genetically modified seeds. And the court rules in favor of the corporation!

David Versus Monsanto is a movie that tells how Monsanto terrorized innocent family
farmers, and how one farmer stood up to Monsanto. It raises the question: What responsibility
do biotech companies have to farmers whose fields they contaminate with genetically modified
organisms (GMOs)?

Everyone is welcome. You don't have to be a Sierra Club member.
