Prairie Day at BRIT - Ft Worth

Celebrate our North Texas prairie heritage with BRIT on Prairie Day. Families will learn about hardy Texas native plants that grow on the prairie and how to harvest the seeds of those plants to enjoy next season. Learn how to make seed balls with the perennials from BRIT’s gardens, and help us toss these miniature gardens onto our pocket prairie to nurture spring wildflowers. Learn more about the cultural and natural history that defines our region through activities and games for the whole family. Free.

Solar Saturday - Ft Worth

Witness the power and benefits of solar energy when the North Texas Renewable Energy Group visits BRIT. A presentation on solar energy will be given, and the whole family will enjoy the demonstration of a solar shuttle which showcases two full-size, fully independent portable electric systems capable of powering a modest, energy-efficient home. Free.

Autumn at the Arboretum - Dallas

From September 17 - November 23, the Dallas Arboretum transforms into a beautiful fall wonderland. The grounds will be filled with 150,000 blooming fall flowers and foliage plantings plus more than 50,000 pumpkins, squash and gourds. Guests will discover displays featuring 45 varieties at unexpected locations – stacked near the entrance, lining the Paseo de Flores and marking the steps to the Women’s Garden.

Cinderella’s Pumpkin Village
In keeping with our 2011 “It’s a Fairy Tale World” theme, Cinderella’s Pumpkin Village comes to life with four houses based on the classic fairytale. Constructed of 1,200 pumpkins and gourds, the houses depict Cinderella’s ballroom, the rooms of Cinderella and her ugly stepsisters, and the Fairy Godmother’s home. Children of all ages will enjoy exploring the village under a canopy of Pecan Trees.
