Fact: A bee travels an average of 1,600 round trips in order to produce one ounce of honey; up to six miles per trip. To produce two pounds of honey, bees travel a distance equal to four times around the earth. This class will give students more insight into the life and important work of the honey bee as well as information about how to become a beekeeper including costs, equipment, setup, location, time commitment and resources.

Participants will learn the proper watering techniques that will help ensure that their landscape will not wilt during the summer heat. They also will learn about new water-saving devices and practices that help reduce high summer water bills.

Oftentimes we get excited about solar, wind and geothermal installations as a possible solution to our energy consumption, but those types of energy solutions can be expensive. Start with baby steps. This class will teach students simple auditing techniques for detecting drafty areas in the home as well as inexpensive follow-up solutions to fixing those leaks.
