North Texas Master Naturalists: Native Plants & Prairies Day - Dallas

Free family event that focuses on Texas flora and fauna and the use of native plants with activities for children, along with experts on birds, snakes, bugs and plants. There will be 30 demonstration and information outreach booths, 30-minute wildflower and prairie walks beginning at 10:30 a.m., and a series of speakers giving short talks/lectures of 25 minutes each on the hour and half-hour starting at 10:30 a.m.

Additionally, there will be a raffle with gifts provided by some of the event sponsors, which include Botanical Research Institute of Texas, Balancing Energy Yoga, Elliott’s Hardware, Gecko Hardware, Pariveda Solutions, Rain Fresh Water, Texas Discovery Gardens, Whole Earth Provision Company and Whole Foods Market – Park Lane. Others sponsors contributing to the raffle are:  REI, Rohdes Nursery, North Haven Gardens, Nothing Bundt Cake, Good2Go Taco. Raffle tickets: $1 or $5/7 tickets.

Blackland Native Prairie Association of Texas: Frankford Tour - Dallas

On April 18 & 19th, Rosa Finsley and Kathy Powers will be giving tours of the never plowed, native Blackland Prairie at the Frankford Church and Cemetery. Saturday, April 18th’s tour will be at 10am and Sunday, April 19th’s tour will be at 4pm. Come to both to view both in different lighting conditions. Best part of tour? The wild hyacinth should be blooming!  More info to come.

Lake Highlands Elementary: Recycling Event - Dallas

Lake Highlands Elementary is hosting its annual Recycling Event to raise money for a learning garden. They will be accepting most electronics in any condition, documents for destruction, and household items such as clothing, sporting goods, toys and games, books, and musical instruments.  [No old TVs, old computer monitors (CRTs), large appliances, chemicals or furniture, please.] 

There is no charge to drop off electronics or household items. They request $5 per box of documents for shredding to support the learning garden.

Denton County Master Gardeners: Plant Sale - Denton

In addition to a wide variety of shrubs, ground covers, perennials, annuals, rose herbs and bedding plants, the sale will include Texas natives and pass-along plants from the gardens of Master Gardeners. 

Steve Huddleston, one of the authors of Easy Gardens for North Central Texas, will be on hand on share and sign his book. Stan Poole, local Adirondack furniture builder, will offer handmade chairs and benches for sale.

Attendees are invited to bring their own carts and wagons for their shopping convenience. Proceeds from the plant sale help fund horticultural programs throughout the county.

Denton County Master Gardeners: Spring Garden Tour - Denton

“In-Town Gardens” is the theme of the 2015 Denton County Master Gardener Association Spring Garden Tour.

Five beautiful private gardens inside the Denton city limits are included on this year’s tour, which raises funds for horticultural education programs. Veteran Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and point out interesting characteristics of each landscape.

Garden Tour tickets are $10 per person and are available from Master Gardeners, local nurseries and online at www.dcmga.com. Children under 12 are admitted free. Admission to a single garden is $5 at the gate.
