Master naturalist Jim Varnum leads this annual walk at the 160-acre prairie preserve.
Dr. George Diggs will be signing his book "The Hunter-Gather Within: Health and the Natural Human Diet." The book provides practical, science-based ways to improve health and address weight regulation using simple diet and lifestyle changes. Diggs will also be giving a short presentation as part of the BRIT Research Symposium being held from 1 to 2:30 pm.
Volunteers needed to help clear invasive plants at 160-acre prairie preserve. Two shifts: 9 am to noon and 1-3 pm. Bring gloves, work clothes, sturdy shoes, hat, eye-protection, sunscreen, picnic lunch. RSVP Don Young at donyoungglass@earthlink.net or 817-731-2787.
Visitors can hike at the Meadow Preserve for free at the monthly open house. Enter at Wooded Gate on east side of Alma, south of Bethany.

Guided 1.5-mile night walk. Wear close-toe shoes. Bring bug spray, flashlight and binoculars or spotting scope. Meet at the Suncreek Park circular parking lot (just west from the normal Connemara entrance on Alma - see map on website) at 9 p.m. sharp and then walk to the Meadow the back way. Sign up on the Connemara website. This event is not appropriate for young children.
Bring your binoculars and field guides and learn about birds from members of the Prairie and Timbers Audubon Society. Expect to see about 30+ species on this 3-hour walk. All ages are welcome.
Enjoy local brews paired with food created by local chefs at this fundraiser for Connemara Conservancy. $50.
