Radio Free Rescue: Dr. Lori Marino - Internet Broadcast

The Irving-based animal welfare radio show features Dr. Lori Marino this week, a marine mammal expert.

Dr. Marino is the founder and executive director of the Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy, Inc. A neuroscientist and expert in animal behavior and intelligence, she is internationally known for her work on the evolution of brain and intelligence in dolphins and whales.

She has also published numerous empirical and review papers on human-nonhuman animal relationships, including the psychological and philosophical bases of animal exploitation and, more specifically, critiques of dolphin assisted therapy and other captivity issues.

Dr. Marino also serves as the science director for the Nonhuman Rights Project.

Green Faith: 'A Green Ramadan' - Webinar

Fazlun Khalid, one of the world’s foremost Muslim environmental scholars, will present "A Green Ramadan." In addition, Ibrahim Abdul-Matin, author of "Green Deen – What Islam Teaches about Protecting the Planet,' and Saffet Catovic and Faraz Khan, co-founders of Green Muslims of New Jersey, will be featured.

City of Benbrook: E-Waste Recycling & Shredding Event - Benbrook

Innovative Electronics will team up with Instant Shredding in the back parking lot behind the Benbrook Community Center/YMCA.

E-Waste Collection Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. 

Document-Shredding Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

E-Waste
As a rule of thumb, if it can be plugged in, it can be recycled. The following is a list of common items that residents can bring to the event:

1. Televisions (any size)/VCR’s
2. Computers(hard drives are destroyed)/Monitors/Printers
3. Fax Machines/Copiers
4. Microwave Ovens
5. Dishwashers/Washers/Dryers
6. Gaming systems (Xbox, PlayStation, etc.)
7. Vacuum Cleaners
8. Radios
9. Telephones
The E-Waste trailer WILL NOT accept light bulbs.

Document-Shredding

Instant Shredding will provide a truck for residents to bring documents for secure shredding. 
A reasonable amount of personal and/or business documents will be accepted (no large quantities of business documents, please).

Dallas Sierra Club: PAC Fundraiser - Dallas

Fundraiser for Texas Sierra Club’s Political Action Committee campaign, "Turn Texas Green," hosted by the Dallas Sierra Club. Support candidates that oppose fracking in Dallas. Meet Dallas City Council candidate Philip Kingston in his Lakewood District 14. Candidates, Jesse Diaz, Dist. 5, and Kingston, Dist. 14, are in runoff elections on June 15 (early voting June 3-11).
