Book showcases Flower Mound’s botanical riches

Most people have heard of the Denton County suburb, but not many have been up to the actual “Flower Mound” where the city got its name.

Legend goes, Native Americans considered the Mound a sacred site and buried their dead there. Located at the crossroads of FM 3040 and FM 2499, early Anglo settlers used it as meeting place.

Kim Feil is Arlington’s loudest voice against gas drilling

Kim Feil doesn’t mind making a scene when it comes to gas drilling.

In one appearance before the Arlington City Council, the Arlington-based activist “rapped” her complaints about gas drilling a cappella two years ago.

She followed that by demonstrating how to put on a gas mask in case of a fallout.

Green Source honors Best Green Businesses in DFW

The Dallas-Fort Worth green community came out to celebrate North Texas’ green entrepreneurs when Green Source DFW hosted its 2012 Best Green Business awards this week. The reception was held Thursday, Nov. 13, at The People’s Last Stand in Dallas.   About 50 people attended the event, which included drinks and hors d’oeuvres served by the Mockingbird Station bistro.  Awards were presented by Green Source DFW  Editor Phillip Shinoda

When 350.org invited people around the world to participate in a climate change action day last spring, Waxahachie resident Marshall Hinsley wanted to join in. He searched the website of the international environmental organization formed to bring awareness to global warming but the closest chapter of the group was in Austin.
