Carbon fee bill introduced in Congress

A bipartisan carbon fee bill, The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 7173), was introduced in both the House and Senate, aiming to advance renewable energy and reduce emissions. Supported by Citizens' Climate Lobby, it imposes a carbon fee, redistributes revenues, and seeks broad support.

Dallas City Council and mayor responded last week to environmentalists' push for a city climate action plan. The Council gave unanimous approval of the environmental initiative at the final City budget vote Sept. 18.

It was a 180-degree turn from past eras at City Hall.

Waco artists draw attention to climate change

The second annual Climate Change Art Exhibit in Waco runs through Sept. 29, featuring over 50 works depicting climate change impacts. Hosted by Waco Friends of Peace/Climate, this event aims to raise climate awareness through art. The reception on Sept. 15 offers entertainment and artist interactions.

On Monday, the city of Dallas set in motion the process for creating a climate action plan with the approval of a budget amendment by the Council’s Quality of Life Committee. 

Calls for an environmental plan that includes a climate action plan had been raised by environmentalists at City Council town hall meetings held during the month of August.

A major, multi-year plan to make Dallas more equitable, prosperous and greener called Resilient Dallas was revealed at Dallas City Hall last week.

McKinney greenie cooking with biogas

Developed by Israeli company Home Biogas, it’s an eco-friendly solution addressing food waste, greenhouse gas emissions, and providing renewable energy and fertilizer for global environmental and health benefits.

Local activists from Citizens’ Climate Lobby were upbeat after returning from CCL’s annual June Lobby Day in Washington. Earlier this month, they joined 1,300 volunteers from the nonprofit on its annual trek to DC to lobby Congress for climate action. 

Gas driller wins second round of Arlington waiver fight

Total, a top gas driller, won City Council approval to waive Arlington’s 600-foot setback rule, despite the protest of over 80 residents. Although Arlington had denied a similar application in February, Total’s revised proposal passed 7-1. The decision sparked public health and safety concerns.

Demonstrators gearing up for annual clash with ExxonMobil

Demonstrators will protest outside ExxonMobil’s annual shareholder meeting at the Myerson Symphony Center in Dallas on May 30, highlighting climate change issues and Exxon’s inadequate response to shareholder resolutions. The protest is led by 350Dallas and supported by various advocacy groups concerned about Exxon’s community impact and fossil fuel dependency.

'The Human Element,' a film by James Balog, opened EarthxFilm, showcasing captivating scenes of climate impact through the elements, with a focus on humanity’s role. Screened alongside 'Ditch the Van,' both films aired at EarthxFilm, part of the significant EarthX environmental expo in Dallas.
