Arlington Conservation Council: Soils for Wildife - Online

Speaker TPWD wildlife biologist Sam Kieschnick

Kieschnick explains why soil is a lot more than just dirt! His ACC presentation (emphasis awareness, appreciation, and action) will portray soil as a living entity — not only the foundation for a healthy ecosystem but an ecosystem within itself. He will explore some of the wildlife-soil interactions and suggest ways to make our soils healthier. Be prepared to see some of the smallest organisms that live where the sun never penetrates. There's a universe under our feet!

Sam Kieschnick is a TPWD urban wildlife biologist serving the Fort Worth-Dallas east side. He previously worked as a nature educator with the city of Mansfield at Oliver Nature Park, as a naturalist at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, as a science interpreter with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, as a BRIT botanist, and as an instructor at Weatherford College. He holds a master’s degree from Tarleton State University on the genetics of pocket gophers.
