A few years ago when Nix Johnson was layed off from his corporate job, he decided to pursue his passion of creating art, and in 2009, House of Smash was born. Johnson began drawing and painting in high school and he studied screen printing and print making in college before moving to mixed media.
He uses old vinyl records to create unique bracelets and cuffs. Speaking at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival last weekend, he said that he got the idea for the bracelets when was trimming bowls to create ash trays and his daughter picked up a scrap and said 'bracelet!'
From there, the idea took off.
He assures that only vinyl with bad music is recycled.
As his Etsy site says, 'We turn bad music into good fashion.'
